As we take time to acknowledge this important date in the Māori maramataka (calendar,) it is important to reflect on the past year, take note of the present and look ahead to the future.

Today, we celebrated Matariki at dawn on Puketāpapa. ✨

Under the twinkling stars, we took time to reconnect with our surroundings, remember our loved ones, celebrate the present, and anticipate the promise of a new year.

Matariki brings us all together to create something new, such as planting a garden and gathering to share kai which was what our tauira did in their workshops today.

Today, we had an activity to celebrate the pōhutukawa star. ⭐️

Students were invited to write a note in memory of a loved one and display it in the whare for Matariki. Spot prizes were given out to students who participated ☺️
